South Coast Roller Derby was formed in June of 2009. We are an all-female, flat track league committed to the idea of a sport that is run “by the skaters, for the skaters”. As a non-profit sports organization we train dedicated amateur athletes to compete in flat-track roller derby; we develop and empower women with the physical and mental strength of a competitive athlete; and we serve our community by providing sporting entertainment for our fans. We give back to our community by offering support to charitable causes that impact the lives of women and children.
Our skaters train and volunteer (on and off the track) year-round to represent Orange County both at home and on the road, competing with other leagues that play by the rules and guidelines set forth by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.

South Coast Roller Derby is proud to uphold the tradition set forth by the WFTDA as a member of their apprentice program. Founded in 2004, WFTDA promotes and fosters the sport of women’s flat track derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. The governing philosophy is “by the skaters, for the skaters.” Women skaters are primary managers and operators of each member league and of the association. Operational tasks include setting standards for rules, seasons, and safety, and determining guidelines for the national and international athletic competitions of member leagues. Complete rules and guidelines can be found at their website: WFTDA
SCRD is registered as a charitable amateur sports organization in the State of California and is exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Service. As such, NO ONE MAKES A DIME off of the league. We rely on skater donations, league fundraisers, sponsorships and random acts of kindness. All monies go toward practice space, event production (including insurance coverage and EMT services!), travel team, marketing and the general maintenance of daily operating expenses. No matter the size of the donation, every penny counts to keep us rolling!
